The Lisbon (Santos River) Team - a token of appreciation for going the extra mile!! by Bard Vos

Our team in Lisbon meets many clients every week when they check in or out of their serviced apartment in Santos River. Almost all of them are very happy and have enjoyed their stay or are looking forward to it. However it does not happen too often that this appreciation is being expressed in the form of a beautiful bouquet of flowers.



 Therefore the joy and surprise shows in the faces of Sofia and Maria when they were presented with this bouquet earlier this morning, by a client who had checked in and was so pleased with the first overall impressions. All in all this makes for a good Friday!!!

Staff Introductions - June 2012 / Javier Serrano - BDE Roomspace Serviced Apartments by Bard Vos



Hi, my name is Javier Serrano and I am originally from Madrid, Spain. I am graduated from Leeds Metropolitan University with a BA (Honours) Degree in Hospitality & Business Management, and I have recently finished my MBA at the EOI Business School in Madrid. I have gained experience over the last 2 years in Business Development and I have over 9 years experience within the Hospitality and Tourism Industry.


Back in London I have been working over five years in a four star hotel chain where I learnt, evolved and grown as a staff member and as part of the management team of the company. My last positions were as Guest Relations Manager, Assistant Reception Manager and Catering Manager among others. In addition to my University studies I have also completed different training in Hospitality and Business which have enhanced and improved my managerial skills, including; Time Management & Delegation, Coaching, Recruiting & Selection and Appraisal Skills for operatives.


I have also worked for an airlines company at the Madrid airport for over three years where I had the chance to improve my business knowledge in different areas having the opportunity, along with another four supervisors that accompanied me along the research and implementation of the different tasks and processes, to create and consolidate a new department with regards to the Cargo business functions of the company I was working for.


I just moved back to London again in February 2012, and three months after I joined the Apartment Service. The atmosphere is great and I look forward to the challenges ahead and the experience and knowledge I will gain from all the team at The Apartment Service. 


The opportunity to work abroad and to deal with different cultures and work environments are of great interest in my professional and personal development.

Staff Introductions - June 2012 / Lucia Abela - Guest Liaison Executive by Bard Vos

My name is Lucia, some of you already know me from working here before a year ago - I worked for a long time in reservations and then moved over as a Corporate Development Consultant. I then left (stupidly) and have now returned with a vengeance. 

I am now a Guest Liaison Executive and deal with arrival and departure confirmations / anything that Mario needs a hand with and when Mario is not here to deal with any complaints. 

I am very pleased to be back and to see familiar faces and some new ones too! Watch this space!!!

I am from Brazil. I have worked in the hotel business  since I came to England in 1996. From 2008-2011 I returned to Brazil to Recife, but came back to London last year in May. 

I have a degree in sport and science and enjoy watching and practicing any sport. I speak Spanish, Portuguese and English. I love Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Japanese and Brazilian food and I have 2 dogs and a cat. I love carnival too and the world cup. Music wise I am very eclectic.

Staff Introductions - June 2012 / Gary Mehmet (Account Manager Agents) by Bard Vos

Hi there.


I have just joined the Apartment Service team as an Account Manager-Agents.


I am excited to be part of the team and really looking forward to the challenge of further developing the relationships in place with our Agency partners. My background is very much hotel based. My career started in 2001, after graduating from the University of Brighton with a BA Hons-International Hospitality Management. My first position back then, was as a graduate trainee manager for 4* Hilton Bracknell, Berkshire. I gained some very valuable operations experience at this hotel and met some wonderful people, many are still close friends of mine today. During this period, I worked in various departments including Reservations, Front desk, Meetings and Events, Food and Beverage and Guest Relations, all of which helped me to gain an insight into how complex a hotel operation can be.


After two years, following the recommendations of my General Manager, John Hunt, I made a decision to move away from operations and into the world of sales.


Over the past 9 years I have worked hard to gain experience in sales. I have been fortunate to work for some strong brands including Best Western Hotels, Jurys Inn and Millennium and Copthorne Hotels.


I have worked my way from Sales researcher to Sales executive to Corporate Sales Manager and Regional Sales Manager and I have experience working with Leisure and Corporate markets.


My most recent position has been as an Account Director for Millennium Gloucester and Baileys, South Kensington with a joint turnover of £30M.


On a personal note, I am married to Leanne Mehmet (Senior Corporate Sales Manager for Qatar Airlines) and we have two children together; Samuel Gary Mehmet 5 years old and Ava Leanne Mehmet (5 months).

Kylie Mann: From Oz to TAS by Bard Vos

My name is Kylie Mann and I am originally from Sydney, Australia.
Graduating from the Intercontinental Hotel School Sydney with a Bachelor of Business in Hotel Management, I gained experience over the last 6 years within the Hospitality and Tourism Industry. I began my career as a Food and Beverage Attendant at Four Seasons Hotel, Sydney and soon progressed into Rooms Division. I then moved into a Guest Service Agent role at Quest Serviced Apartments and from there became the Reservations Supervisor and Night Audit Manager. It was here that I realised my passion for Sales and moved onto working for Hamilton Island as a Trade (Agency) Reservations Consultant and then progressed to the position of Direct Reservations Consultant.

As the travel bug hit in 2011, I broadened my Hospitality and Tourism horizons and set my sights on London. I moved to London in October 2011, soon after joining the Apartment Service in December 2011 and have never looked back. The atmosphere is great and I look forward to the challenges ahead and the experience and knowledge I will gain from all the team at The Apartment Service.

I enjoy the outdoors, travelling and experiencing different cuisines and cultures.

The TAS Ladies @ The EMMA´s by Bard Vos

All Glammed Up and....Somewhere to Go!!

The Sales Team attended the EMMA’s on Friday 4th November in hope to scoop the Corporate Housing Provider of the Year award. Well done to Go Native and many thanks for the Champers!! We were a little jaded on Saturday morning but no lasting damage! We ate a fantastic spread and it was all going swimmingly until the lovely Shaun Prime from Go Native gave our table a bottle of champagne – which was a fantastic gesture but may have contributed to some pretty enthusiastic dancing from the TAS team! We all caught the 12.13 out of Vauxhall so were quite early considering some of our industry friends propped the bar up until the early hours. (Don’t panic, you remain nameless!)

Welcome to Jostein Smeby - strengthening the Account Development Team by Bard Vos

Jostein has recently joined The Apartment Service as an Account Development Executive.

I’m a 40yr old Norwegian, with a background as a Real Estate Agent, Sales consultant, Team leader, district Manager, Key Account Manager(in Norway) and now I’m a Account Development Executive in TAS. I’m a person who likes challenges, so I should thrive here in TAS. On a personal note, September is a very important month for me, since I then join up with my father and brother and go hunting wild reindeer in the Norwegian mountains. This year I got a really wonderful hunting experience and a pretty big buck....

My Cause by Renata Mucska

I am supporting WWF and have adopted a tiger called Kamrita who lives in Chitwan National Park, which is in Nepal. I am giving donation every month to support the rangers who protect the tigers against animal cruelty.

Today there are as few as 3,200 left in the wild.


It’s WWF’s goal to double wild tiger numbers by 2022 – the next Chinese Year of the Tiger, and it’s only with our support that they can continue to help protect wild tigers and work to tackle the most serious environmental challenges facing our planet.

The Apartment Service at Office* 2011 by Tess Smith

Sean and I covered the Office* 2011 Exhibition which we thought was great. We met lots of lovely people and bonded with our ESA colleagues. We went to the after show party at Planet Hollywood and met the three giant transvestites. We partied to the great cabaret and drank a few cheeky vinos!

All in all a great two days.
